WordPress.org is superior to WordPress.com in a lot of ways, but one that that WordPress.com users might miss when they make the switch to hosted WordPress is the “follow” button, which gives any WordPress.com user the option to add your site to their blogroll and have your recent posts appear in their feed. If you’re a newly minted WordPress.org user missing this follow feature, you’re in luck, because it’s actually pretty easy to integrate onto your self hosted site using the Jetpack plugin.

Jetpack is an awesome plugin to have on your WordPress site for a bunch of reasons (it’s a well-known plugin for streamlining/improving speed and performance and increasing traffic), but one of the coolest and little-known features of it is that it allows you to add a follow button to your site pretty easily.

Once the plugin is installed and activated, go to Jetpack’s settings page and activate the “Subscriptions” module. Next, go to your general WordPress settings section and visit the discussion page. If you scroll down to the bottom, there should be a “follow blog” option. Check that box and any WordPress user or reader should be able to quickly and easily subscribe to your blog.
