According to a recent statistics about Internet usage trend,It is estimated that number of users accessing internet from Smart Phones and other mobile devices will outnumber the conventional computing devices within few years.

Through Google Analytics report for WPStuffs,I observed a steady increase in number of mobile devices accessing the blog through Mobile devices. When I compared the month December 2012 with March 2013,I found more than 2% increase in mobile devices usage.

From the reports above we have to accept the fact that Ignoring Mobile device is not at all a good idea anymore. So here I compiled some methods to make your WordPress blog Mobile Friendly.

Using Responsive WordPress Themes

Responsive themes are the recent trend in WordPress themes industry,The working behind this Web technology is really simple : Automatically resizing the web elements according to the screen resolution with the help of CSS.

Genesis Framework by StudioPress is one of the earlier themes framework to adapt responsive web design,Currently most of the Genesi child themes are already made responsive and Studiopress promises to release all future child themes with a responsive design.

Not only Genesis Framework you can find responsive WordPress themes on other premium theme directories like Themeforest,Woo Themes etc.

JetPack Mobile Theme

Jetpack Plugin by Automattic comes with a Add-on feature called Mobile Theme. The Mobile theme automatically converts your WordPress blog as a mobile website when users visits your blog from any mobile device.

To activate Mobile Theme go to WordPress Admin Area >> JetPack and You will find a module called Mobile theme. Simply click on Activate button to activate the mobile theme.

The downside of this method is you can not change the default look of your mobile version.

my vote goes with choosing a responsive design rather than choosing a plugin/service for achieving the desired effect… however while choosing the responsive skin one has to take care of the advertising options as responsive skins are not so good in displaying them but it is still possible to display ads through responsive themes..

noticed something while reading this article via dolphin browser on my mobile. Your social icons block half of the visible page, then follow as I scroll. Is this intentional? Quite irritating.

I did like the article though.

Great post vivek. Used jetpack mobile theme before and no shortcodes, buttons were working in the mobile version. Got to try WPtouch for a change. Thanks for mentioning!

Nice information Vivek, even sites like GoMo, GinWiz, too help in creating a mobile version of your blog. Many ad platforms are also building mobile version of ads too for monetizing mobile website. Adsense too does have mobile ads for your mobile version.

I sometimes visit WPStuffs and techiestuffs via my Android tab. May be I too am a part of that 2% rise in smart phone traffic!
